The (LouisianaNLG@emaildodo.com) listserve is for friends and dues-paying members of the Louisiana Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild. Through the organizing of our social justice legal community over the years, there are currently over 300 individuals on this list. Anyone may currently post to this listserv and a link to remove yourself from this listserv is at the bottom of every email sent out.
A separate listserv (firstname.lastname@example.org) exists for dues-paying members only that is used to vote on matters appropriate only for those who pay dues (all dues paid go for local chapter use). You may join or renew your membership here .
There are also separate listservs for New Orleans and Baton Rouge Legal Observers managed by S. Mandisa Moore-O’Neal, the Legal Observer Coordinator, to send out requests and coordinate Legal Observers. Legal Observer requests should be sent to nolaLOcoordinator@gmail.com or organizers can fill out a request form online .
The National Lawyers Guild seeks to unite the lawyers, law students, legal workers and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of the people, to the end that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests. Our aim is to bring together all those who recognize the importance of safeguarding and extending the rights of workers, women, LGBTQ people, farmers, people with disabilities and people of color, upon whom the welfare of the entire nation depends; who seek actively to eliminate racism; who work to maintain and protect our civil rights and liberties in the face of persistent attacks upon them; and who look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the people, rather than for their repression.
We recognize and appreciate differences in how people and groups interact and express themselves and also expect that all communication through NLG platforms (this listserv or other NLG committee listservs) will be respectful, inclusive, and in keeping with our values. We recently developed the following Code of Conduct to guide participation on this NLG listserv. Please note that failure to comply may result in a warning or removal from the listserv.
Information shared must be relevant to the NLG mission above such as event announcements, trainings, mobilizations, attorney referral requests, sign-on letters, educational opportunities, debate when necessary, or other communications to help facilitate collective work and movement building.
Please use the Louisiana NLG listserv with consideration. Remember that nobody likes spam.
Please be respectful, polite, and open in your use of language. Insulting or disrespectful language will not be tolerated.
Please remember that as members of the social justice community, we are committed to operationalizing anti-oppression principles that recognize and deconstruct the systemic, institutional and personal use of power to marginalize, silence, or otherwise subordinate one social group or category, in order to further empower and/or privilege another, and work to equalize power imbalance in our communities. These principles should be reflected in our use of listserv.
